Beauty Tips
Loss of eyebrows
Eyebrows are an important feature on faces, so if you have lost your eyebrows due to alopecia, there is a solution in the form of semi-permanent make-up. Semi permanent make-up is a process whereby iron-oxide pigments are implanted into the skin using ultra fine hair strokes which give the appearance of natural looking eyebrows. As the colours are matched to your hair colour and skin tone, the results are excellent and if you follow the after care guidelines you should expect the effects to last for 2/3 years. As the make-up is placed over the natural brow bone, should your eyebrows decide to grow back at any time, the semi-permanent make-up effect will be enhanced. The treatment lasts about 1-1half hours and although a little uncomfortable, it is worth it as you will feel so much better once you see the results.
Finishing Touches are renowned as the premier leaders in the world of micropigmentation and are responsible for training the majority of technicians in the UK. Loss of eyelashes
Loss of eyelashes can be particularly upsetting as apart from anything else, eyelashes help to prevent dirt from getting into the eyes. False eyelashes are one answer and these are widely available. However if you don’t want the daily task of putting false eyelashes on, there is another semi permanent make-up solution which allows you to have eyeliner placed on your eyes, and this can offset the absence of eyelashes to a certain degree. This will give the eyes more definition and the eyeliner will always be smudge free!

Nail rescue
Hair, fingernails and skin are all made up of a protein called keratin which explains why if you have alopecia, you may also have problems with your fingernails and toenails. Basically your nails will appear ridged and pitted and are generally soft and flaky. There are some products available which can give excellent results.
OPI is recognised as the world's leading manufacturer of professional nail care products. Lena White is the exclusive UK distributor of OPI nail products and they are offering wherehasmyhairgone.com members a 15% discount when purchasing OPI nail products from their website lenawhite.co.uk. To take advantage of this offer simply insert the words 'wheres my hair' in the promotions code box when you reach the checkout page.
General appearance/make up
Although you may not feel you look your best while you are experiencing alopecia, try to be as well groomed as you can, as this will make you feel more in control of what is happening to you. Although you won’t need to visit the hairdressers for a while you can still treat yourself to a facial or a massage.
You could also treat yourself to some new make up. Benefit Cosmetics are offering all wherehasmyhairgone.com members a 10% discount off all products when bought online from benefitcosmetics.co.uk. The offer is not valid with any other offer and is available while stocks last until 31/12/07. Please quote the code whmoffer when ordering.
Counselling
It is thought that stress plays a major part in the onset of alopecia so it may be worth looking at dealing with any underlying cause of stress in your life, by seeing a trained counsellor. Counselling can also help you to adjust to your new appearance. Your family and friends can only support you to a certain degree whereas a counsellor is trained to look at your situation more objectively. To find a therapist in your local area, contact The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy at bacp.co.uk or call 01455 883300.
Rest and Relaxation
It is important to take time out for yourself from your normal routine, whenever possible. This will help you to feel less stressed and could include activities such as listening to music, reading a magazine, going for a walk or having a massage. Complementary therapies such as reflexology or acupuncture may also help you.
Exercise
Although the benefits of exercise are well documented, most of us don’t exercise on a regular basis. If you have alopecia, try and incorporate some form of sporting activity into your life, as it will make you feel less stressed and can make you feel happy and revitalised. Find a form of exercise that you enjoy and one that fits in with your lifestyle. Regular exercise also strengthens and tones muscles, helps to burn body fat, and controls blood pressure. It can take the form of something simple like a daily walk or bike ride. Alternatively you could consider joining a health club.
