Trevor Sorbie pioneers national My New Hair initiative
Trevor Sorbie is leading a national network of hair professionals in an initiative to help people suffering from medical hair loss. Trevor Sorbie MBE has sent out a call across the UK to his peers in the industry to join him in offering their services. Trevor already personally offers his internationally acclaimed talents totally free of charge in support of women suffering from the effects of cancer treatment or hair loss. In the past year he has provided many women with this personal service offering advice and customising wigs to reflect the natural style they want to achieve.
"I have a lot of experience in cutting wigs and any hairdresser can learn to provide this invaluable service to clients. Coping with illness is very traumatic and to have the added stress of hair loss can be devastating. Hairdressers are very involved with their client’s image and providing this service is an additional way to enrich a client’s life during this sensitive time," explains Trevor.
Trevor is being joined by notable industry names Andrew Collinge, Alan Edwards, Darren Gilbert and Shirley Thornhill of Umberto Giannini, Mark Hill, Guy Kremer, Charlie Miller, Andrew Mulvenna, Jon Chapman of Scruffs, Darren Stuart of Tribeca and Charles Worthington who have agreed to offer clients advice on wig purchases and then customise their look. It doesn’t stop there either – cutting wigs is a specialist skill and Trevor will be offering seminars through L’Oréal Professionnel to hairdressers interested in working with wigs, he has also dedicated an entire area of his website to tips for both clients and hair professionals on selecting, customising and caring for wigs.
Trevor’s wig experience began backstage, and behind the camera, at high profile shoots and shows, so through the years he has had every opportunity to identify the perfect wig supplier and his current choice is Trendco. "There are hundreds of wigs to choose from with Trendco and they have suppliers all over the UK. They can normally deliver the next day by mail and the quality is first class," says Trevor.
As hairdressers pledge their support of Trevor’s new initiative he will continue to commit his time, skill and energy to helping women suffering from hair loss to feel great about wearing wigs. As Tracey, one grateful customer put it: "I can’t praise Trevor enough for what he is doing for people like me. He has made a brilliant job of transforming my wig from what looked like a hat into a personalised style and he made the whole experience a joy." My New Hair has its own dedicated website mynewhair.org – which is packed with information and lists participating salons around the country.
